The Whiskey House
Guinness World Record, Whiskey Bar, Gaslamp
Did You Know…
By Frank Sabatini Jr.
…that The Whiskey House located just outside the Gaslamp Quarter in the Marina District holds a Guinness World Record for possessing the largest commercial inventory of whiskey on the planet?
The establishment received official certification from Guinness in 2019 after conducting a meticulous count of the establishment’s vast bottle collection.
Co-owner Alex Minaev estimates that he and business partner, Ryan King, have amassed more than 4,000 labels of scotch, bourbon and whiskey from around the globe since opening nearly 10 years ago. They’ve conveniently cataloged the options by distillery, age, and place of origin. The printed document is so lengthy and comprehensive, it feels as though you’re flipping through the white pages of an old telephone book.
Many of the bottles are displayed attractively on illuminated shelves occupying every interior wall. A sizable bar and lounge areas are designated for imbibing on the booze while grazing on dishes such as sausage boards, lamb nachos, and black bean burgers. In addition, weekend brunch featuring both breakfast and lunch fare was recently introduced. It’s available from 9:00a to 3:00p Friday through Sunday.
