San Diego Ranks Among ‘Best Cities to Raise a Family’

By Frank Sabatini Jr.

A recent study by financial-services provider WalletHub grabbed the attention of families from all backgrounds when it named the top 15 cities in the U.S. to raise kids.

The researchers first narrowed down the list to 180 cities and took into account 45 factors for determining their final picks. Things like housing costs, quality of healthcare, school options, and recreational opportunities were naturally among the core criteria.

Six California cities made the list, with San Diego ranking at No. 8, based in part on the city’s ability to “offer enough recreation to keep kids entertained,” according to one of the surveyors.

Coming out ahead of San Diego was Fremont, CA, which ranked No. 1, plus other California cities that included Irvine (No. 3); and San Jose (No. 7). Those below San Diego were Huntington Beach (No. 10); and San Francisco (No. 12).
