The all-butter crusts that have made Pop Pie Co. a huge local success will be rolling into South Park as the eatery continues expanding throughout San Diego. It will be adjoined by its sister business, Stella Jean’s Ice Cream.

Owners Gan Suebsarakham and husband Steven Torres launched Pop Pie Co. eight years ago in University Heights as the only commercial kitchen in metro San Diego devoted exclusively to making both sweet and savory pies. A few years later they began slinging high-quality ice cream next door under the name Stella Jean’s.

Their expansion into South Park will proceed with locations already established in Point Loma, Pacific Beach, Carlsbad and Costa Mesa. It is scheduled to open in mid-February at 1519 30th St.

In the meantime, say hello to Flora, North Park’s newest arrival that replaced the short-lived Truffle restaurant at 3021 University Ave. The menus at Flora take diners around the world with diverse brunch and dinner offerings ranging from shakshuka eggs and green chilaquiles to sashimi, pumpkin pappardelle, pork tacos, and sous vide duck. No passport required.

The restaurant was launched by Ocean Mohamadi and her husband Nino Cusimano, who co-founded Rusticucina in Hillcrest and Roman Wolves in Little Italy.
