A re-imagined spot for ice cream (By Frank Sabatini Jr.)

Feeling Groovy in Mission Hills

The Trust Restaurant Group has rebranded its walk-up ice cream window that adjoins Cardellino, the company’s Italian-style chophouse. The ice cream outlet previously operated as Mr. Trustee, which beckoned to the bygone days of when soft serve took our neighborhoods by storm every summer. Now the space has become Wild Child Ice Cream to evoke hippy-esque vibes of peace and love. And nobody’s complaining.

The soft-serve is gone. It’s been replaced with pure ice cream sporting far-out flavors. The lemon meringue using marshmallow whip, for example, is deserving of the widespread applause it’s been receiving. There is also malted-chocolate brownie; vanilla with robin eggs candy; and classic mint chip. Or if you’re hankering for something icier, the tie-dye sherbet provides psychedelic swirls of raspberry, orange and pineapple flavors. Everything is available in cups, cones, or pints.

The re-branding coincides with a Wild Child Ice Cream truck available for private events.
