Mexican Eats at a New Walk-Up Near Downtown
By Frank Sabatini Jr.
A former garage attached to a small apartment building at 1870 Fourth Avenue in Bankers Hill has been converted into a somewhat hidden eatery called Ocho Mexican Food & Cafe.
Owned by a local couple, Ocho operates as a service window for Mexican-style coffee drinks (the marzipan latte is all the rage) as well as breakfast plates, mini burritos, tacos and assorted elote. The latter involves cobs of sweet corn slathered in various condiments and then coated in either Cotija cheese, Doritos, Hot Cheetos, or Takis.
Aside from a few high-top tables, the business is geared to customers preferring their caffeine and meals to go. It’s located across the street from Sharp Rees-Stealy Downtown Urgent Care. So if you are popping into the medical facility for a cholesterol check, best to visit Ocho after your blood draw.
