North Park Makes Way for ‘Little Sisters’
By Frank Sabatini Jr.
Since opening five years ago, Sisters Pizza in Hillcrest has anchored itself into the hearts and palates of those on the hunt for back-East style pizza, soups, sandwiches and some sturdy American-Italian entrees. The business pays homage to the late Kate Green, who shared a close sibling bond with Sisters’ owner Emily Green Lake.
The goal was to eventually open a ‘little sisters’ version of the eatery somewhere in San Diego, said Green Lake, who runs the business with her husband, Trevor Lake. That expansion is set to materialize in North Park later this summer in the 30th Street space that previously housed Sicilian Thing Pizza.
“It’s smaller than our Hillcrest location, and we will be completely remodeling it,” Green Lake told us, adding that the design will incorporate photos and memorabilia of her beloved sister—much like Sisters Pizza in Hillcrest does.
Expect a streamlined menu focusing on pizzas, whole and by the slice, as well as a few items exclusive to the North Park operation such as house-made calzones and stromboli. Given its location smack in the center of America’s most famous craft-beer neighborhood, Green Lake assures there will be plenty of local suds in the offing as well.
