Development, Marina District
‘The Life Sciences Project that Keeps on Mutating’
By Frank Sabatini Jr.
Since breaking ground a year ago, the massive $1.5 billion Research and Development District (RaDD) between Pacific Highway and Harbor Drive will now add an additional 1.5 acres to its original 12-acre blueprint.
The developer, IQHQ, secured approval by the city for adding the additional park acreage, which has been named Block 1A. It will become part of the district’s life sciences campus, replete with meandering walkways, trim landscaping, and waterfront seating.
RaDD is expected to be completed in 2023. It will encompass three city square blocks and offer 1.7 million square feet of office, laboratory, and retail space. Designed by the global firm, Gensler, it will be the largest mixed-use complex along the California coastline.
