Yes, Crime in San Diego Really is Down
By Frank Sabatini Jr.
Contrary to what disgruntled naysayers keep claiming, the San Diego Police Department shared statistical proof that crime within our city has clearly dropped.
Data from 2024 reveals an overall decrease in crime for the third year in a row, making San Diego the envy of the nation.
Crimes against persons fell by 1.1 percent, and crimes against property decreased by 4.7 percent. The recently released report also shows significant drops in murders by 22.2 percent; non-fatal shootings by 32 percent; and sexual assaults by 10.9 percent.
In a public safety summary issued by the City of San Diego, it states that Mayor Todd Gloria and Police Chief Scott Wahl attribute the favorable statistics to “outstanding police work, strong community partnerships, and innovative use of technology.”
