Golden Hill
Golden Hill has a unique charm that is second to none. A mixture of Victorian and modern architecture brings an aesthetic to Golden Hill that you can’t find anywhere else. Many buildings are the local businesses that dot the streets of this small community. Boutiques, cafes, and locally-owned restaurants are the backbone of Golden Hill.
Since Golden Hill first came to be, artists of all kinds have called it home. Daniel Hicks and Mario Torero are two examples of contributors to beautiful art in the community. Hicks’ works include minimalist geographic and typographic compositions, all of which showcase his talent. One of Torero’s most notable pieces for the Golden Hill community has a permanent space on the exterior wall of a Golden Hill business. The mural gives both a stunning sight and a striking message to passersby. The creativity is palpable in the community. In fact, art is celebrated often by the people of Golden Hill as a whole. Benefits of Living in Golden Hill
A World-Class Culinary Scene
Nothing brings people together like a good meal. Don’t you worry – Golden Hill is home to some beloved local gems. Pizzeria Luigi is a great place to get a Guy Fieri-approved pizza. You read that right. Featured on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, Pizzeria Luigi is sure to give you a good experience.
Not big on pizza? Kingfisher is a pretty new addition to the neighborhood. They opened up this past January. It’s a Vietnamese-inspired restaurant and cocktail bar that the people of Golden Hill love.
Turf Supper Club brings an interesting twist to the food-going experience. It’s a grill-your-own-supper restaurant and cocktail bar with steaks, burgers, and the like. It’s a wonderful place to get some grub and drinks with some friends and have a good time. Writing about it doesn’t do it justice. You have to see it (and grill and taste it) for yourself.
The list goes on and on. These three spots represent a sample size of the food scene in Golden Hill. There is a great deal of variety for every set of tastebuds.
Parks and Recreation
As we previously mentioned, Balboa Park is very close to Golden Hill. There’s actually a section of Balboa Park called Golden Hill Park with its own attractions, trails, and vistas. Golden Hill Park is also home to another look into the past outside of the neighborhood’s architecture. The Golden Hill Fountain Grotto is a fountain built in the early 1900s that still stands. Though it’s a shadow of what it most likely once was, it acts as another echo of the past surrounded by modernity. It is definitely worth stopping by while in the park.
Balboa Park is much, much larger than just the Golden Hill sector. In fact, it’s one of the largest urban parks in America – no joke. Saying a “dash” of nature may have been a bit misleading.
Hiking, biking, and other activities that don’t rhyme with those two are possibilities just north of Golden Hill. One of the possibilities is visiting a museum or two – or 17. You can also grab a bite to eat or a drink while in the park. There are a bunch of places to choose from! Ya know, we’ll be here for a while if we list everything you can do at Balboa Park. Just trust us. It’s a good time!
Golden Hills Art Scene
The arts are celebrated with a couple of larger-scale events held by the community. The Golden Hill Block Party and Kate Sessions Fest happen annually and are put on by local acts. These are the celebrations of local art that we teased earlier. Did we mention they’re also free for all ages? Get a taste of the music scene in Golden Hill and swing by one of these events!
