The San Diego Fishermen’s Working Group (SDFWG), which presents the Tuna Harbor Dockside Market at Seaport Village every Saturday, has joined an effort to bring fresh seafood to thousands of San Diego families and individuals experiencing food insecurity.
The group recently teamed up with the San Diego Food Bank, which will utilize its network of non-profit feeding programs for making nutrient-dense fish available to those in need throughout 2025. Its distributors are located throughout San Diego County and include the LGBT Community Center in Hillcrest and Iglesia Casa de Alabanza in North Park.
Reps of the project say that SDFWG will supply around 1,400 pounds of fish each month to the Food Bank. Species will include tuna, swordfish, and halibut.
San Diego Food Bank CEO Casey Castillo said his organization’s partnership with SDFWG brings more than just food to the table, adding that “it brings high-quality fish directly from our coast to individuals and families who need it.” He cited that one in four San Diegans are “nutrient insecure.”
