Dozens of parents with kids who attend Golden Hill UTK-8 Dual Language Immersion School will debut an art and music festival at the Golden Hill Recreation Center https://www.sandiego.gov/park-and-recreation/centers/recctr/goldenhill from 11:00a to 5:00p on May 17. Named Goldenpalooza, the event is the first-ever major fundraiser for the Title 1 teaching facility.

Organizers Juli Crane and her husband, Dave, said the festival has been in the making for more than four months. It will feature a main stage for 10 different musical performances, plus interactive art projects, painting and drawing lessons, pop-up vendors, and more. In addition, food will be for sale by local businesses such as Matteo, House of Bao, Family Tacos and others.

“We thought this would be a good time to launch something by tapping into the art, music and whole creative scene in Golden Hill and South Park,” said Juli. “We’ve grown this organically and we are hoping to use the money we raise to bring art classes to the school.

The couple have a daughter enrolled in kindergarten at the school.

The event is free, although attendees can purchase “art experience passes” that allows them to take part in five different interactive activities such as clay sculpting, face painting and DIY sensor kits. The passes are $20 in advance or $25 the day of the festival. They can be purchased online
