This Downtown Newcomer Hopes the Answer Is ‘Soft’

It is the ultra-cool, fast-casual breakfast spot that San Diegans have been waiting eagerly to see open.
Egg Tuck established a wild cult following seven years ago after operating as a pop-up in L.A.’s Koreatown. The brand eventually expanded to multiple locations throughout Southern California and made its San Diego debut in downtown’s Core-Columbia district in late August. (There are also locations in Texas and Chicago.)
Egg Tuck’s signature menu item is a breakfast sandwich capturing soft-scrambled eggs, chives and two different house sauces within a hefty brioche bun.
The eggs achieve their soft, silky texture from whisked-in cream before they are cooked “low and slow.” And the sauces are in deliberate contrast to each other for adding flavor complexity. One is a little sweet, and the other offers a moderate zing from Sriracha.
The menu extends also to swooped-up versions of the original sandwich, with some containing meats, as well as various breakfast burritos, potato tots, and of course, coffee.
