Benefits of Living in Coronado

Walkability

Coronado is a very walkable community. Though the peninsula itself stretches for a few miles, the main city blocks are all located in an area under 2 square miles in diameter. You’ll have plenty of fascinating walking destinations throughout the Coronado area. For instance, walking down Coronado’s main street, Orange Avenue, you’ll see restaurants, shops, theaters, and art galleries for your entertainment.

With the Metropolitan Transit System’s Coronado shuttle available to take you in and out of the rest of San Diego, Coronado is certainly a community where cars are optional! You can walk, bike, or even ride a golf cart just about anywhere in Coronado, and enjoy the fresh air while you do so.

Education

Children living in Coronado don’t even need to cross the bridge to access quality education. Coronado is home to both a childcare center and a Montessori preschool for your young children, and a variety of K-12 school options for your older ones. Coronado is also home to the Coronado School of the Arts, a  premier public school arts conservatory for grades 9-12 that provides rigorous arts education and training for the professional world.

Historical Locations

You can learn about so many pieces of history in Coronado. For example, the Coronado Historical Association and Museum is a historically designated site where you can learn about Coronado’s culture and history. Changing exhibits mean that you’ll learn something new each time you visit!

The most well-known of Coronado’s historical landmarks is the Hotel del Coronado. Built-in 1888, the hotel has had numerous famous visitors and was the first major attraction in Coronado’s resort community. Be sure to visit the hotel for a taste of what has inspired and rejuvenated visitors for generations!

Proximity to Nature

Coronado is home to so many parks and green spaces that you’ll have to work to visit them all! There’s Coronado Tidelands Park, Glorietta Bay Park, and Coronado Cays Park, all scattered throughout the peninsula. If hiking is more your style, the Crown Cove Trails provide a walking path right by the water.

Life on the Water

No waterfront lifestyle is complete without the beach, and Coronado has plenty of beaches for you to choose from. Coronado Beach and Silver Strand Beach are two of Coronado’s most famous coastlines. Sticking your toes in the sand and watching the San Diego skyline is a Coronado tradition that never gets old.

If your favorite furry friend wants to get in on the fun, there’s also a specially designated dog park on Coronado Beach. You’ll be able to let your puppy play in the waves and make new friends while you watch the tide come in.

Recreation

There’s so much to do in Coronado! In addition to walking along the beach, you can engage in a variety of outdoor recreational activities. Sailing, stand-up paddle boarding, surfing, kayaking, and gondola cruises are all options that get you off the sand and in the water. Coronado is also home to several highly-reviewed golf courses, so make sure to go swing a club on the green after you dry off!

Coronado LOCATION

Though some may call Coronado an island, it is more accurately a peninsula in San Diego Bay. Still, the main way in and out of “The Crown City” is the famous Coronado Bridge that takes you right over the Bay and into the heart of downtown San Diego. The Naval Air Station takes up part of the peninsula, so if you have a loved one in the Navy, this might be a great space to make a home.

Still, you’ll certainly be living the island life in Coronado, with plenty of options for recreation, shopping, education, and beach time all available within the community.
