Did You Know…

…that San Diego’s “creative industries” have produced more than 170,000 jobs and generated $10.8 billion for our regional economy?
The surprising report was released last month by the City of San Diego, titled Creative Economy in the San Diego Region. It looked back to 2022 to analyze 71 industries and 76 unique occupations within them. Such industries included those in the nonprofit and for-profit sectors. They ranged from architectural, cultural and artistic organizations to companies that design goods and offer creative services.
Of the industries that were studied, digital media contributed the most to San Diego County’s economy. Conversely, print publishing continues to decline in terms of jobs and profits, as it actually has for the past decade.
The report was funded in part by the California Arts Council.
In a released statement pertaining to the report, Mayor Todd Gloria pointed out that: “The city is fast becoming a mecca for arts and culture with the recent opening of several high-profile arts venues, including the Rady Shell on San Diego Bay, Epstein Family Amphitheater at UCSD and re-openings of the San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego and Mingei International Museum in Balboa Park.”
