…that by the end of this year Downtown San Diego’s newest and largest park will finally be completed and open to the public?
Named East Village Green, the 2.1-acre project has been in the making for more than 15 years as the planning process underwent several design revisions and permitting delays.
Live cam footage of the park in these last several months of development can be viewed here.
A large portion of East Village Green is bound by 13th, F, 14th and G streets. That section will be distinguished by a central lawn, a two-level community center, a children’s playground, an interactive water feature, a game area, and public restrooms.
The other section, which straddles the northeast corner of 14th and G streets, will feature areas for small and large dogs to play off-leash. Better yet, the park’s surrounding residents and visitors will be able to revel in much-needed green space that the neighborhood has lacked for decades.
Additionally, park goers will be afforded 185 parking spaces inside a newly built garage with two underground levels.
“Parks like East Village Green not only provide community members a destination to connect and play, but they are essential for a downtown economy and revitalization effort,” said Economic Development Director Christina Bibler in a written statement.
We couldn’t agree more.
