Did You Know…
By Frank Sabatini Jr.
….that famed heavy-hitter baseball player Ted Williams grew up in North Park, in the bungalow home at 4121 Utah Street, which is located a stone’s throw from the neighborhood’s two looming water towers?
Williams was a star player on the baseball team at nearby Hoover High School before becoming a member of the San Diego Padres in 1936. He would soon move into a long and tumultuous career with the Boston Red Sox, for which his tenure spanned from the late 1930s to 1960.
A legend in his own right, he is considered one of the greatest athletes to come out of San Diego. Williams died in 2002.
