The “cloning table” inside the Museum of Illusions (MOI)

Enjoy a Dose of Bent Reality in the Gaslamp Quarter

By Frank Sabatini Jr.

The highly anticipated Museum of Illusions has opened in San Diego, bringing with it interactive installations designed to befuddle your visual perspective on things.

Created by the global science-leaning franchise called MOI, there are more than 60 museums of the kind in 24 different countries. The San Diego location at 665 Fifth Ave., debuted recently with nearly 10,000 square feet of space housing everything from dazzling 3-D holograms and rooms filled with optical illusions. There are also crafty light mirages, a walk-in kaleidoscope, and a “cloning table” where you can behold your duplicated self.

Taking pictures is encouraged. Staffers are on hand throughout the museum to help visitors capture the best shots possible while immersed in many of the unreal experiences visitors will encounter. The entire walk-through of the museum takes about 45 minutes.

Admission is $35 for adults; and $30 for kids. Tickets can be purchased online or at the museum.
