Box-pleated skirts, pillbox hats, and overcoats with orange velveteen trim were among the haute-couture elements enjoyed at a “fashion parade” of Pacific Southwest Airlines (PSA) stewardesses held at Mister A’s in Bankers Hill in 1966. The event, as shown in this YouTube video during lunch service, was a veiled promotion, so to speak, for PSA’s weekly flights between San Diego and Oakland.

The show spotlighted a variety of stylish “air hostess” uniforms as they evolved from the 1950s to when the television segment aired in the 60s.

The former low-cost airline was headquartered in San Diego and operated from 1949 to 1988. Its commercial image was distinguished by painted smiles on the noses of the planes.
