High-Tech Kiosks Coming to San Diego
By Frank Sabatini Jr.
A year after their approval by the San Diego City Council, dozens of dual-sided “wayfinding” kiosks will begin popping up in downtown neighborhoods such as The Marina District, Cortez Hill, the East Village, City Center and the Convention Center District. At least 50 of the touchscreens will be installed over the next two years to help San Diegans and visitors discover local businesses while also providing them with information on real-time transit options, public safety alerts, shelters, food support and other city amenities.
In addition, users will have direct access to a live security team to report safety concerns or to request an escort to their cars late at night.
“These interactive kiosks will make Downtown San Diego more accessible and connected,” said Mayor Todd Gloria in a written statement.
The kiosks will operate 24/7. They are a product of IKE Smart City, which operates in 15 cities around the country.
