‘Little Italy Loft Up for Two Luxe Magazine Awards’

By Frank Sabatini Jr.

When Ryan Trenhaile saw the completion of a new kitchen he designed inside his two-level home in Little Italy’s Doma Lofts, he didn’t imagine the outcome would snag the attention of Luxe Red, which publishes the glossy, international Luxe Magazine and presents a slate of awards each year for outstanding design and architecture.

Trenhaile has lived in his loft for 18 years. He is a visual effects artist, and his wife is a chef. It was the German company Studio Europa Leicht that executed his kitchen design, then submitted the outcome for nomination in two categories: Project Kitchen and Best Use of Color.

“For a few years, I was planning and modeling the new kitchen in 3-D drawing concepts,” Trenhaile told us. “When I was ready to pull the trigger, it took about four months to build. I was pushing pretty heavily for an ultra-modern look with Ferrari red, carbon gray, super clean lines, and versatile lighting.”

For the kitchen’s general use of color, Luxe cites its “delightful subtleties of gray and black; its light concrete walls and ceilings” and how “the overall design plays on the expressive edges of a dark and luxurious color palette.”

Trenhaile compares the colors and textures to “kind of a race car theme going on.”

There is no cash award should the project win in one or both categories. But Trenhaile will be afforded bragging rights, exposure in Luxe Magazine, and recognition at a virtual awards event in June.
