Little Italy’s ‘State of the Neighborhood’

By Frank Sabatini Jr.

The Little Italy Association is resuming its annual “State of the Neighborhood” event, which hasn’t been held since 2019 because of Covid. The free community gathering will take place from 6:30 to 8:30p, Sept. 22, at the 10,000-square-foot Piazza della Famiglia, located at India and Date streets.

Updates on Little Italy’s newest development projects, pending initiatives, and upcoming cultural events will be presented by association president Marco Li Mandri. History buffs will enjoy the added bonus of learning about the neighborhood’s rich history as well.

In previous years the event saw robust turnouts of residents, business owners, and San Diegans from outlying areas interested in relocating to Little Italy.

For those wishing to indulge in food and drink during the meeting, a special VIP ticket for $45 includes an entree, glass of wine, and dessert from the adjoining Little Italy Food Hall. It also buys you reserved seating for the presentation.

Note: The Piazza will also serve as the site for “Casino di Piazza” starting at 7p on Sept. 16, when the space is transformed into an outdoor casino reflecting the gardens of Milan. Click here for details.
