Mission Hills Meets Miami Beach
By Frank Sabatini Jr.
Work is nearing completion on the Sasan Apartments, a seven-story pink structure that brings a touch of Art Deco architecture to the southwest corner of Washington and Goldfinch streets.
The project is headed by San Diego-based Nakhshab Development & Design, a family-run firm specializing in the construction of Mid-Century style buildings.
Beckoning to the old pastel structures of South Miami Beach, the apartment building will feature 54 studio units of various sizes. Their compact interior designs will feature built-in sofas and tables.
The structure will also include commercial spaces on both the ground floor and rooftop. The latter remains under construction, and so do portions of the interior blueprint based on our recent visit to the site. In addition, the ground level will feature a 1,000-square-foot commercial courtyard.
Soheil Nahkshab, an engineer and owner of the development firm, is a Mission Hills resident and served as an elected trustee for the Mission Hills Town Council as well as an elected director of Uptown Planners.
As part of a public art project, students from nearby Grant School got to paint whimsical designs on the project’s street-level barrier boards, which we’re told won’t come down for at least two more months.
