Multi-Sensory Museum Arrives to the Gaslamp Quarter
By Frank Sabatini Jr.
The second-ever location of Chicago’s acclaimed WNDR Museum has opened in a 15,000-square-foot space at 422 Market St., where a Hooters restaurant formerly resided. Since the museum’s recent opening, it has already scheduled 20-plus exhibits, all of which promise dazzling interactive/immersion experiences using high-tech lighting, video and sound.
Among them is INSIDEOUT, an award-winning multi-media installation by German-based artist, Leigh Sachwitz. The 360-degree exhibit shatters the notion of walls and ceilings—perhaps more than some of the most technically advanced dance floors in popular nightclubs, we’re told.
Another exhibit, called Quantum Mirror, features more than 150 mirrors to create something of an “infinity room” designed to get us thinking about our relationships with social media and our obsession with screens. (Whether it will prompt Facebook and Instagram junkies to deeply reflect is yet to be seen.)
“San Diego is home to a dynamic, inclusive arts scene, and we’re thrilled to provide a new, unique environment to showcase both internationally acclaimed artists and incredible local talent,” said Ryan Kunkel, president of WNDR.
The museum is open daily. Check here for hours. Tickets range from $22 to $50.
