North Park Newcomers
By Frank Sabatini Jr.
We’re psyched about the recent arrivals of Rouleur Brewing Company San Diego and Black Radish, both of which landed close to each other on University Avenue in North Park.
The Carlsbad-based Rouleur replaces the short-lived Belgian Beer and Waffle with a dramatic redo that artfully blends together slick tile work, steel bar tops, faux wood, and a communal table incorporating bicycle parts. Located next door to The Observatory, the 1,200-square-foot tasting room offers 20 beers, wines, and hard kombucha on tap, as well as lunch and dinner.
A more intimate setting defines Black Radish, which aims to capture the fine-dining scene of New York City, but with a relaxed approach. Dishes incorporate French and California cooking techniques, as seen in lobster toast with brown butter, Alaskan halibut almondine, and Cornish game hen. High on our list is their rotating “Sunday roast,” available from 10a to 3p weekly.
