October Is a Good Month to Be a Kid in San Diego
By Frank Sabatini Jr.
Thanks to the San Diego Museum Council, kids 12 years of age and younger are admitted free into more than 60 museums throughout San Diego County during the entire month of October. It is the 16th year in a row that the promotion has been in effect.
Participating museums within metro San Diego include the Fleet Science Center, which recently completed a $5.6 million renovation that expanded the museum’s exhibition space by 20 percent. The redo also included additional gallery space in the basement, which gives visitors a first-ever peek into the underground sections.
Also taking part are the Natural History Museum, the San Diego Model Railroad Museum, the USS Midway Museum and the Comic-Con Museum. The latter has extended its immersive Dr. Who exhibition, which was supposed to end several months ago. The eight-zone “experience” will now run until Jan. 14, and it’s included with the kids-free program.
