‘Some TLC for Balboa Park’s Historic House of Flora’

After years of talk, it’s finally happening. The historic Botanical Building in Balboa Park is getting a $21 million restoration that will occur in a couple of phases beginning next month and finishing in the summer of 2023.

Built as part of the 1915 Panama California Exposition, the iconic structure’s graceful pergola and general building features will be restored and revitalized. Numerous plants housed in the structure will be temporarily relocated during the project.

A portion of the effort is being spearheaded by Forever Balboa Park, while the City of San Diego kicks in $13 million, and the state contributes $8 million for the work.
