Where the Caribbean Meets Little Italy
By Frank Sabatini Jr.We’re all in favor of a Caribbean-inspired rooftop bar and restaurant that Grind & Prosper Hospitality says will soon go into the space previously occupied by Prepkitchen in Little Italy.
Due to open by early summer, Coco Maya by Miss B’s takes its cues from the Caribbean side of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula for presenting tropical tequila-based cocktails and charcoal-cooked cuisine. The menu was conceived by executive chef Ricardo Heredia, who made a local name for himself when helming the kitchen at the former Alchemy restaurant in South Park.
We’re equally excited that GTC Design Studio from the East Village is handling the redo. The firm was responsible for designing the exquisite interiors of Cardellino in Mission Hills; Rare Society in Hillcrest; and the lobby of The Guild Hotel on West Broadway downtown.
Expect an open-breezy atmosphere accented by a giant skylight, soft colors, and a cocktail bar slinging drinks made with fresh fruits and herbs.
