Get ready for CityFest (Hillcrest Business Association)

Yay to the Return of CityFest!
By Frank Sabatini Jr.
It’s been called “the second Pride” or “Pride light” over the past few decades. And just as San Diego LGBT Pride made its joyful return last month after a two-year hiatus due to Covid, the rousing Hillcrest street fair known as CityFest is also popping back to life.
The free all-day event will be held from noon until 11p on Sunday, Aug. 14. It spans nine city blocks in areas along Fifth Avenue at Robinson Street and University Avenue—and to the tune of continuous live music on two stages.
Visitors can also expect to encounter an array of wares, art and street food for sale. In addition, there will be two cocktail bars, a beer garden, and a children’s pavilion where root beer floats can be purchased.
Presented by Fabulous Hillcrest as a fundraiser for the Hillcrest Business Association, the fest typically attracts upwards of 100,000 visitors for what invariably turns out to be a sun-screen kind of day.
