Comic-Con Declaration

The big news had just been announced as more than 135,000 Comic-Con International badge holders started pouring into San Diego for the big, annual convention in late July. The excitement reverberated throughout downtown as comic creators and costumed fans learned that the organizers of the massive event signed an agreement to keep Comic-Con coming back to San Diego every summer through 2030.

City and county officials and those in the local tourism industry were delighted as well, given that the convention reportedly generates around $160 million in revenues for the region.

In the last decade at least, Comic-Con has routinely committed to only two-year agreements. So securing four more years is hopefully a good sign that the non-profit organization will remain firmly anchored at the San Diego Convention Center.
