Did You Know…

…that North Park is home to San Diego’s “smallest and sweetest” playhouse?

Known as the North Park Vaudeville & Candy Shoppe at 2031 El Cajon Blvd., the 35-seat theater has been around since 2003. Its owners, Jeff Bushnell and his wife, Summer Golden, at one time sold 300 varieties of candies from the space.

Bushnell told us that the production schedule was much busier in the early days. Now, the couple holds seasonal, mostly mini plays on occasional weekends while offering 40 different types of wrapped candies for sale during the performances.

Coming up next will be the annual fall North Park Playwright Festival on Oct. 24-25. It will feature seven different 10-minute plays before going dark again until sometime in the winter. This is definitely the place to get your alternative, quirky art (and sugar) fix.
