Welcome to the largest neighborhood in San Diego! East Village is 130 blocks packed full of San Diego experiences you won’t forget.

This former warehouse district got a new lease on life with the construction of Petco Park in 2004. There’s something for everyone in East Village, whether it’s a baseball game or a concert at Petco Park, a delicious dinner at an award-winning restaurant, or a vibrant nightlife experience.

East Village Housing

Despite the multitudes of vibrant businesses and organizations, there’s still plenty of room for housing in East Village. You can live a brief walk away from Petco Park or neighboring a block of popular nightclubs. With restaurants just outside your door, you won’t need to worry about traffic when going to dinner.

This area has a variety of housing options, including condos, lofts, and tri-level townhomes. You might find yourself in a two-bedroom row home with urban-industrial styling and a private garage, or maybe a loft with a landscaped interior courtyard is what you’re looking for.

Many residencies offer features like rooftop decks, lap pools, or BBQ areas to enjoy with your guests and neighbors.

Benefits of Living in East Village

With educational opportunities galore, a vibrant night and day life, and constant growth, East Village is the place to be. Here are just a few of the best features of East Village life:

Education

East Village is a great home for learners of any age. Families with children can choose between charter and private schools for their kids, while those continuing their education can attend San Diego City College.

Education doesn’t end at the doors of the school building, however. In 2013 the new San Diego Library was built right next to San Diego City College, allowing students and community members alike to make the most of the library resources.

San Diego City College isn’t the only offering for higher education. East Village is also home to the New School of Architecture and Design, the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, and an extension center of the University of California San Diego.

Proximity to Nature

East Village is the heart of the downtown San Diego community, but that doesn’t mean it lacks green space. East Village contains several parks and easy access to the 1,200-acre Balboa Park just next door. You can go to Fault Line Park or Park at the Park for a local picnic and warm-weather fun.

If you’d like to make a bit of a longer trip, just take Park Boulevard across the San Diego Freeway to get to Balboa Park. Balboa Park is the best place for outdoor recreation in San Diego, and it’s right next to East Village. Containing space for dog parks, golf courses, museums, and even the San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park is a great place to spend a day outside.

Recreation and Restaurants

East Village is home to people invested in a vibrant community, and nothing showcases that more than Quartyard. Quartyard is an urban park that’s home to a restaurant, beer garden, art space, and coffee shop. It’s also the perfect event venue for concerts, cultural events, street markets, and more. You can get a bite to eat with your family or get a drink to enjoy during a comedy show under the stars.

There are too many restaurants to list in East Village, so you’ll have to explore to find your favorites. One must-visit is the Mediterranean restaurant Callie. Located on Island Avenue, this establishment was awarded the Bib Gourmand by Michelin inspectors. If you’re a dog owner, you’ll love Bay City Brewing; it’s dog-friendly, so you can take your furry friend to taste craft beer.

Petco Park

There’s always something happening at Petco Park, which makes it the perfect destination for an evening of fun. Check out their events calendar for all of the latest goings-on.

Home of the San Diego Padres, Petco Park hosts 81 home games a year. It’s a must-see destination for baseball fans and sports enthusiasts in general. A location like Petco Park is in high demand for plenty of sports events and competitions and, in the past, it has been home to soccer, rugby, and tennis competitions.

Petco Park isn’t just for sports fans. Stadiums are the ideal major music venue, and in the summer there’s an orchestra, band, or singer booked nearly every week.

Whether your passion is arts or sports, you’ll find something you’ll love at Petco Park.

Transportation

East Village is a walkable community. With no more than 12 blocks in any direction, walking where you need to go in East Village is often the fastest and easiest way to travel.

If walking isn’t an option, East Village also has two protected bike lanes. There is one on J Street, and one on 6th Avenue, so you can get to where you’re going in safety.

The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System serves the San Diego area, which makes it a great resource for going outside of the East Village.
