Get Your Kosher Food Fix Right Here
By Frank Sabatini Jr.
A new Israeli restaurant specializing in kosher meals has opened at Chabad of Downtown, a synagogue located in the Gaslamp Quarter.
Hamitbach not only caters to those seeking kosher foods, but it has also been luring customers on the hunt for sturdy Middle Eastern favorites such as shawarma, schnitzel sandwiches using Challah bread, and house-made falafel.
Among the authentic garnishes you’ll encounter in Hamitbach’s cuisine are preserved lemons and a stew-like mixture of chickpeas, harissa, parsley and paprika.
The restaurant’s name in Hebrew translates to “kitchen.” It fills a local gap given there are so few kosher eateries in San Diego. And we should point out that the familiar Israeli term for “enjoy your meal” is “b’tayavon.”
