Smoked dry-aged duck at Kingfisher (Facebook)
Food, Golden Hill
Kudos to Kingfisher
By Frank Sabatini Jr.
Bon Appétit magazine recently published its “50 Best New Restaurants in America” list, and a Golden Hill gem rightfully fetched inclusion.
The exquisitely designed Kingfisher Cocktail Bar & Eatery was the only restaurant in San Diego that made the cut. It was ranked among five other restaurants throughout California.
The editors were wowed by Kingfisher’s complex, modern-Vietnamese cuisine, pointing to the crunchy tamarind-glazed chicken wings served with toasted coconut ranch. Oh yes! It also bestowed accolades to one of our personal faves: the smoked dry-aged duck accompanied by Vietnamese-style chimichurri.
Their raves extended further to the dried scallops served with preserved lemon cream, and the cocktail list, which is organized into “minimalism” and “maximalism” subsections. In summary, they referred to the restaurant as “a stunner—glitzy and inviting.”
