San Diego Ranks Among ‘Best Places to Live in the U.S.’
By Frank Sabatini Jr.
Rarely does a season pass anymore without San Diego being called out for its desirable quality of living by a national news outlet or research company. The latest is by Money, which surveyed the nation recently in search of the 50 best places to live in the country.
While we may or may not agree with Atlanta seizing first place in the study, we won’t sneeze at San Diego coming in at No. 22. We were one of only two cities in Southern California that made the cut. (Irvine ranked at No. 13.)
“The so-called ‘Birthplace of California’ certainly isn’t the worst place to put down roots,” the writers of the survey stated, referring first to our Mediterranean-like climate. They went on to cite Downtown San Diego’s diverse restaurants, and our city’s vast number of breweries, parks and recreational options, including kayaking out from Coronado and whale watching off the coast of Point Loma.
The summary also applauded San Diego’s high number of IT communications companies such as Qualcomm and Nokia, as well as our ever-growing number of healthcare and biotech companies, all of which offer ample employment opportunities.
