If you haven’t, you’re missing out. If you’re a die-hard Latin jazz fan, or just someone who likes to sit back and listen to some groovy tunes, this is the guy you’re looking for, the friend you need in your life. Originally from Guadalajara, Mexico, he and his trumpet can be found playing at cool venues throughout the city.

In addition to his impressive creds—he’s performed alongside Dizzy Gillespie, Liza Minelli and Natalie Cole, to name a few—you can find Castellanos introducing young music prodigies every Wednesday night at May S. Marcy Sculpture Court in Balboa Park, which is conveniently located next to Panama 66; a tasty spot to grab a bite, cocktail, or brew. He’ll follow the kiddos’ performances with his own Jazz Jam from 8:30 p – 11:00 p in the James S. Copley Auditorium.
