San Diego This Month – Oct 2019

Fun Fact Of The Month:

San Diego’s Balboa Park is the largest urban cultural park (1,200 acres) in the WORLD (even slightly larger than Central Park) with 17 museums, 19 gardens, several theatres, walking paths, open space areas, restaurants, shopping, the world-famous zoo, and more.

San Diego Halloween:

San Diego’s a city with a lot of history and is absolutely one of the best cities to celebrate this spooktacular holiday. Its history goes back to its Spanish roots to the 18th century and to its first European connection, even earlier than that. We put together a fun list of San Diego’s main haunted attractions to experience:

  1. The Haunted Trail at Balboa Park
  2. The Disturbance created by The Haunted Hotel at Mission Valley
  3. Whaley House at Old Town
  4. Ghost & Gravestones Tours

Highlights From Jamie & Hudson’s summer:

We went on our first international trip together (excluding Canada and Mexico) to southern Italy for nearly two weeks in June. We flew into Rome, then took the high-speed train down to Naples, where we met my sister, Kim, and her Spanish boyfriend, Ricardo, to try Naples world-famous pizza, on our way to our super charming Airbnb in Piano di Sorrento. Friends from Israel met us there, then we drove to the ancient city of Pompei, to explore the ruins from the 79 A.D. eruption of Mount Vesuvius. From Piano di Sorrento, we took incredible day trips to Capri (my favorite), Positano (Hudson’s favorite), Amalfi, and Ravello, and we loved every minute of it!

We spent our last few days walking and goofing off in and around Rome: the Colosseum, St. Peter’s Basilica, Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, Sistine Chapel in Vatican City, and more. Then, on our last day, Hudson and I had a few hours to kill before our flight out of Leonardo da Vinci Airport, so we took a bus to the center of town in Fiumicino, where we discovered the most delicious pizza and tuna sandwich we’ve ever had in a tiny, unassuming spot named Pizzeria Sancho. . .a perfect way to end our Italy adventures!
